World Immunisation Week – Older Persons

Today on Day 4 of World Immunisation Week, we are talking about the importance of vaccines in later life.

As you get older, your immune system naturally weakens making it harder to fight diseases like flu, shingles, and pneumonia.

The good news is that vaccines can help protect you and keep you feeling your best.

Vaccines offered to older adults include:
1. Annual flu vaccine (autumn)
2. Shingles vaccine
3. Pneumococcal (pneumonia) vaccine
4. COVID-19 boosters (autumn and spring)

If you’re 65 or over, or have a long-term health condition, speak to your GP or pharmacist about the vaccines you’re eligible for.  Staying up to date with your vaccinations helps you stay independent, active and healthy for longer.
