🧠 What is Dementia Action Week?
Dementia Action Week is a national awareness campaign, running from 19th – 25th May 2025. The week aims to:
- Raise awareness of dementia and its early symptoms
- Encourage timely diagnosis
- Promote support networks and services for people living with dementia
- Combat stigma and build dementia-inclusive communities
This year’s theme is:
🔍 “Recognise the Symptoms. Act Early. Support Better.”
🔎 Why Early Diagnosis Matters
Currently, 1 in 3 people with dementia don’t have a diagnosis. Many delay seeking help due to fear, denial, or misunderstanding of symptoms.
- Getting a diagnosis:
- Gives access to medical support and treatment
- Helps families plan for the future
- Allows people to stay independent for longer
- Enables access to benefits, support groups, and community activities
